The Pokémon Company tasked us with creating an epic and cinematic launch film to introduce Gigantamax Pokémon to Pokémon GO as part of an international campaign for TV, cinema and online.
Breaking away from the bright, lighthearted tone of previous Pokémon GO campaigns, this film aimed to deliver high-stakes excitement that immersed existing players in a dramatic and larger-than-life atmosphere while drawing lapsed players back with a more challenging and social proposition.
Inspired by classic Godzilla movies, we crafted a high-energy, action-packed narrative that fully embraced the scale and spectacle of Gigantamax Pokémon, while containing knowing references and callouts to classic films of the ‘kaiju’ monster genre such as Jurassic Park and Nope.
Through Virtual Production (VP) and innovative use of real-time animation via Unreal 5, we transported viewers across global locations to reinforce the idea of a worldwide event that players must prepare for.
The combination of dynamic camera movements, animation, and cutting-edge visual effects created a trailer that stands apart from previous Pokémon GO marketing.
A final touch was the cinematic score, composed by Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Pacific Rim), which elevated the intensity and impact.
The result was a high-impact and visually striking campaign that resonated with longtime Pokémon fans and new players alike by bringing Gigantamax Pokémon to life like never before.
